The Lizards

Cozumel wouldn’t be Cozumel if there weren’t lizards. It’s a jungle, of course, and lizards do live in the jungle.
There have been three lizards that have kept us company these past 10 days. All three of them must live very close because it seems to be a short compute for them to hang out at their typical spots during the day.
We can see all three lizards from our balcony. Two hang out by the relaxation pool equipment. The pool equipment is underground and covered with a wooden platform. It sits to the side of small covered building that’s used as a bar when they have entertainment at night by the pool.
These two lizards are a bit skittish and like to hide when people walk by. One lizard hides between the cover of the pool equipment and the small building, while the other hides under the wooden platform. These lizards are about three feet long and nondescript. Pretty much, they’re lizards.
The third lizard, however, thinks he owns the place. He’s also about three feet long and a bit wary of people but he doesn’t hide. Instead, he climbs the tree that’s just a few feet away from the pool equipment. And today, like most days, he spends his time in the tree, soaking up the sun or rain, whatever the day brings. In fact, you can spot him a mile away in the green of the tree. You see, he’s orange--actually, a really beautiful orange. He has an ornate looking button on each side of his neck and a wrinkly neck like a rooster that you can see when he bobs his head up and down.We hope we find him again when we return in a couple of months!
