Top Ten Reasons Why We Don’t Like To Dive With Certain People

10. They kick during a drift dive.
It’s called a drift dive for a reason—you relax and let the current take you away. If you kick, you only go faster and it makes us work harder to keep up with you!

9. The braggers and one-uppers who’ve always been somewhere you haven’t, seen something bigger than you have, and have dived deeper than you have.
Who cares? Certainly not us. I think they just like to hear themselves talk.

8. They have poor buoyancy control.
They’re up, they’re down, they’re kicking the reef, they’re kicking up sand, and they’re coming up under you so YOU have to get out of their way.

7. They swim after fish and turtles.
I don’t know why. It irritates the fish and turtles since they swim faster than the people do. One good thing: it drives the fish and turtles right to us because we’re just hanging back waiting.

6. They put their masks in the camera bucket.
No matter how many times the Divemaster tells them that the small bucket is fresh water for cameras only, inevitably, there’s one person who thinks his/her mask is special. No, I don’t think so.

5. They boast about their scuba experience but their diving shows they still need a lot more help.
See numbers one through 10.

4. They kick up sand in the swim thrus while we’re playing follow the leader.
See number 8. Poor buoyancy control in a swim thru equals zero visibility. Who wants to follow that?

3. They touch the coral and kick the reef.
Again, see number 8. They’re floundering all over the place to get that perfect picture with their camera. They think that the only way to steady them is to hang on the coral. No. And after the picture is taken, let’s kick the reef to get out of there. Again, no.

2. They cluster around the Divemaster.
They’re so anxious to see and do everything that they’re on the Divemaster’s butt. So much so, he can’t move around even if he wanted to. It’s irritating for the rest of us because they usually scare the fish away.

And the number one reason we don’t like to dive with certain people:

Overall, they’re inconsiderate about everything because it’s all about them!
These are the people that put their stuff all over the boat so you trip on their things. They have to be first off the boat and first on the boat even though there are others that were before them. They get in your way during the dive and give you “the look” because it’s never their fault. You get my drift. That’s why we don’t like to dive with them and ask that they’re NOT put on our boat!
